I’ll do anything to get away from screens; become HVAC tech

When I was growing up I knew one thing for sure. I never wanted to be the sort of person who reported to a cubicle all morning for the rest of our life. I definitely care about the idea of staring at a screen for the next 50 years. In our mind, it was best to find some kind of active labor that would legitimately engage me from dawn until dusk. Unluckyly, this is not what happened. Rather than becoming a creative professional I fell into the trap of toiling for corporations. I stared at ipad screens every morning and felt our eyes burn. That’s when I decided that I made a big mistake and needed to go back to university. The most logical solution was to attend a local trade university so I could enter a professional work that included toiling with our hands. The next thing I knew, I was graduating from our heating and cooling certification program. It only took me 18 weeks to become a licensed HVAC worker and to find a professional job at a local air quality control dealership. The entire time I was in university our family asked about our choice in the heating and cooling industry. They could not understand why I would provide up a lucrative position in a major corporation to repair a/c units and forced air furnaces everyday! No matter how often I try to tell people about our preference for driving around the city, fixing heating and cooling equipment, and meeting with the central HVAC owners… People cannot seem to understand our desire to labor with our hands beyond our keyboard.
