Grandma won’t let HVAC tech in her house, skin color

There are things about my family that drive me nuts.

Don’t get me wrong, I think that they do the best they can with the equipment they’ve been given.

However, sometimes that equipment is very disappointing. They can be super judgemental, close minded, and poorly educated in a lot of areas, which tends to create tension between us. As a progressive human, I can’t stand to see their nonsense. This is especially true when it comes to my grandma and her outdated views of the world. Recently, she was so extreme with her racist beliefs that she wouldn’t even get her heating, cooling, and air quality equipment service. For the past 5 years my grandma has been complaining non-stop about her indoor air quality. She’s always saying that the air temperature fluctuates wildly from hot to cold as she is doing or watching golf. She’s been convinced that the thermostat hasn’t been properly regulating her indoor air temperature. She has told us about her high-energy bills every single month and blamed it on her outdated heating, cooling, and air quality control equipment. And yet, when she finally called the heating and cooling dealership and arranged a professional heating and cooling maintenance job… She refused to let the heating and cooling technician into her house. Why? Because when he emerged from the heating and cooling repair truck she was unhappy about the dark tone of his skin. The real kicker is – I know this HVAC technician personally. In fact, he’s not even a minority for her to be riled up about. He’s a white dude with a tan.
