Thermostat is baffled by our changing schedules during pandemic

Sometimes I wonder if things would be simpler in life if we gave up all of our supposed modern conveniences.

If you’re anything like me, you doubt that cell phones, computers, and social media are really the best inventions for mankind.

I think that we have been relying on technology and gadgets way too heavily for the past 20 years or so. I definitely consider this every day since we got a smart thermostat installed in our house. At the time, we really thought that transitioning from an old dial temperature control unit to an intelligent air quality control device was going to be a revolution in our lives. My wife and I were both certain that we would cut our energy bills in half and maintain higher quality indoor air handling devices if we had the extra help of a smart temperature control unit on our side. It turns out, this smart indoor air handling device is not the miracle solution that we were looking for. In fact, I’m pretty sure that our air temperature control system is causing us more grief than it is helping. When we both worked out of the house we didn’t notice that the thermostat was a major issue. However, since we’ve been working from home for the past 6 months it seems like our smart thermostat can’t comprehend our daily schedules. We are often running in and out of the residence to accomplish errands and appointments… And meanwhile our central heating and cooling system has no idea what to do. Our energy bills have actually gone through the roof and I don’t think our heating and cooling devices are performing at their optimal level. It’s probably best to get rid of the smart device all together.
