Pros and cons to a gas furnace

I have been looking into a gas furnace for my home and weighing the pros and cons.

Since I have existing ductwork, it would be fairly easy to hook up a new furnace.

The issue with a gas heater is that I would need to get a flue network and gas hookups installed. The installation would be expensive, invasive and time consuming. The energy consumption on a gas furnace is quite high too. It is pretty expensive overtime to run. A lot of people complain about there being no middle ground with a gas furnace either. You are either running at maximum heating capacity or it is totally off. For really cold climates, a gas furnace is the way to go. You don’t want a little bit of heat or would even think to utilize low heating mode. Moderate climates wouldn’t benefit from this situation at all. Also, if you are not on it with heating maintenance, this system isn’t a good idea. Dust, dirt and hair get inside of the system and clog it. If you don’t change the air filter monthly, the dirt gets in the system and will cause it to overheat because the furnace is pushing through the dust. Overheating can lead to a carbon monoxide leak, the heater lighting on fire or expensive parts like the heat exchanger breaking. What is good about a gas furnace? For those in the cold, it is the most efficient option. It also is the least expensive furnace option out there. It is quite common so finding a contractor to do service and repair on the system would be quite easy.
