I tried to say no to the request, but my boss forced my hand
Five days each week I work as an HVAC repair technician.
I enjoy the work. Every day is quite different. I honestly never know what problem I will face throughout the day and I like that mystery. Repairing heating and air conditioning units is like putting a puzzle together. I happen to think it is a lot of fun to work in the HVAC repair industry. Unfortunately, some days can be a lot longer than others. Summer is one time during the year when we are always very busy. Not heat and humidity can be overpowering and a lot of people end up with A/C problems. Some homeowners don’t realize that the air conditioner will only cool the house about 30 degrees lower than the outside temperatures. When it’s 110° outside, there is absolutely no way that the A/C can reach a temperature of 62 degrees. If you turn the thermostat down, you end up with problems that keep the air conditioner from working properly. That’s why summer is usually very busy. My boss wanted me to work late on Tuesday, but I knew that my girlfriend was waiting for me at home. We were going to have dinner and we had reservations for 6 p.m. I knew I would not have time to go home and shower if I stayed to help someone finish their work. Unfortunately, my boss reminded me that I wanted a promotion. It was hard to say no to his request when he reminded me that I want a raise and a new title.
