I help my company to save money by secretly adjusting the HVAC thermostat
I am yet to get reprimanded for adjusting the thermostat at work, but if you think about it, I am saving them some money and conserving energy
I hate being in a space that is too hot. I would rather be cold and add layers of clothing, but when I am hot, it becomes a difficult task to find ways to remain cool. In the Winter months, I prefer not to use my HVAC system at home for heating because it gets too warm for me. I especially don’t sleep with the unit on at night because I have tried it over the years, and I am yet to find a temperature that is comfortable for sleeping. I think my disdain for using the heat during the Winter stems back to my childhood where at times it got so warm in our home because of the high temperature of our radiator that we could not control. There were nights where it got so warm that I cracked the window open so that the cold air from outside could flow in. That felt so good and though my dad yelled at me about getting sick, that blast of cold air was worth it. I am grateful that I no longer have to rely on a radiator for heat and I am grateful that the technology on the modern HVAC systems has advanced so much. To be able to control the temperature of your home or office space is important for our comfort. Therefore, I prefer to work in smaller offices where the thermostat isn’t regulated by a maintenance crew. I have been guilty of adjusting the thermostat at work because the office space was too warm. I live in a state where we do not experience brutally cold Winters, so I honestly don’t see the need to use the heat. I am yet to get reprimanded for adjusting the thermostat at work, but if you think about it, I am saving them some money and conserving energy. My sweater provides all the warmth I need.
