Laughter was the only remedy for the noisy air conditioner at work
When an employee works in a commercial building there are certain amenities that are offered or should I say extended to each of them.
They might include but not limited to free water from a water cooler or bottle, free coffee, sometimes free breakfasts and lunches.
In addition, a working air conditioner during the hot Summer months and comfortable heat in the Winter are necessities. Some of these amenities are necessary to guarantee that the employees are working comfortably as well as efficiently. I recall once when one of the air conditioners in my office building stopped working, and unfortunately, that section of the building became increasingly unbearable. Luckily for me, my office was located in the corner of the building, which was controlled by a different HVAC unit, therefore, I was not impacted by the broken A/C. The HVAC service provider dispatched their technicians to rectify the problem. There were a few things that were wrong, but the most pressing issue was that the unit was leaking and the pan that was used to collect the water began to overflow. That building was old, and I believe those units were old as well, so they probably should’ve been replaced, but instead the owners decided on a quick fix solution for the A/C. Well, that makeshift solution was to install a pump to drain the water out of the A/C unit. However, that pump sounded just like a coffee maker and at least twice per hour the contraption would make gurgling sounds while it pumped the water. My coworker Mary who sat near the gurgling A/C, giggled each time it made the sound. Laughter was the only remedy for not going crazy after listening to that gurgling all day. At least the office was cool and we could work comfortably. The A/C worked superbly, though it disturbed the silence in the office, a mere sacrifice for having a working air conditioner.
