Got all the HVAC I wanted on my vacation
When I’m in my own home, I’m the bad cop when it comes to the thermostat setting.
- While I don’t particularly love this role, it’s one I have to embrace to keep our HVAC costs from ballooning.
Where we live, there isn’t all that much to worry about when it comes to HVAC heating needs. The heat pump might come on a handful of times all winter long. Our region has a cooling need far more than it has a heating need. That said, the HVAC cooling in this area is not cheap. This is why I’m tough about the thermostat staying no more than 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. This goes double during the afternoon during the peak heating hours. However, one good thing about being the thermostat cop is that I use the savings to help pay for our accommodations when we go on vacation. Our big vacation is at the end of summer. We are going away to the beach for two wonderful weeks. No hotel for us thank you. Instead we rent a vacation home. It’s minutes to the beach and it comes with amazing residential HVAC along with a suite of HVAC technology. This is a very big deal for me because our beach vacation is the one time of year that I go nuts when it comes to the thermostat setting. The zone controlled HVAC allows me to have a thermostat in our bedroom. Unfortunately this requires my wife to wear long pajamas the whole time because I crank the air conditioning down so low. Still, I love to get my money’s worth when it comes to air conditioning for those two glorious weeks every year.
