It’s just about constantly freezing plus you constantly have to make sure that your oil furnace system is performing to the best of its ability. I still can’t believe that every one of us live here! I miss using the a/c in the Summer plus I don’t like the freezing winters.

We came home to a snowstorm from a winter vacation in a nice, warm tropical area. Unfortunately, some time while we were gone, our furnace died. We didn’t get home until around dinner time, and my husband tried to fiddle with it a little bit until he realized that we needed to get an HVAC technician on an emergency call. Unfortunately, the storm was getting worse and getting an HVAC technician to the house that night just wasn’t going to happen. We didn’t have any space heaters and we didn’t really want to go back out and buy some that we only needed for one night. We have a fireplace and firewood and we could make do. That was a pretty amazing night. It was certainly romantic. We drank some brandy and sat before the fire and talked and even played cards for a little bit. We never even turned the TV on. We ended up really opening up to each other. We made a bed in front of the fireplace, listened to some music, and got romantic. We don’t often bother with the fireplace, maybe a couple of times a month in winter, because it takes work to get wood and it’s messy to clean. But, I have never enjoyed the fireplace as much as I did that night. That night, the storm blew over and an HVAC technician was out the next morning. We had to buy a whole new furnace. Fortunately, when I found out, I was still in a good mood from our adventure in front of the fireplace.

My husband gives the most amazing gifts. For Christmas last year, he surprised me with a weeklong tropical vacation to a popular tourist destination. We had a great time. The weather was nice enough to swim at the beach and in the motel pool, but not so hot as to make it uncomfortable or really to need the air conditioning. I really enjoyed the weather and preferred to have the motel air conditioner turned on fan most of the time, but some of those businesses there will freeze you out. They have the best air conditioning systems in these touristy tropical locations. As soon as you enter a building, any building, you are hit with a blast of icy cold air. We went out of our way to choose restaurants that offered outdoor dining and outdoor shopping arenas because of this, and fortunately we found plenty. I kept a sweatshirt in the rental car specifically for our shopping and dining experiences. I just couldn’t believe some of those places were so cold. Why couldn’t people just enjoy the nice warm temperatures? I understand that some people think 80 degrees is hot, but they are few and far between, I would think. Most people are dealing with ice and snow that time of year. I didn’t leave the cold, snowy north to freeze out in a tropical location. But, it was okay, because we spent most of our time outside, at the beach, canoeing, and strolling the boardwalks. It was a really nice vacation and an amazing gift.

I worked as a food runner, dishwasher, and busser for a small but busy restaurant near my house my junior and senior years in high school.

It was an older, well established, privately owned restaurant that really needed a few upgrades on the old building.

One upgrade it desperately needed when I first started there was a new HVAC system. The kitchen was always hot while the dining room stayed chilly. I know of a few customers that we lost because of the HVAC system. I’m glad I didn’t get sick, working in a hot kitchen and going into a cold dining room wet with sweat. We were all getting pretty miserable. We mentioned this to the owner a few times, but he was too cheap to do anything about it. The head cook ended up putting a window air conditioner in the kitchen, and even ran it in winter. Then, one day the walk-in freezer went down, and the owner had to bring in an HVAC technician on an emergency call. The HVAC technician fixed the walk-in freezer, and mentioned that the restaurant owner was wasting a lot of money in electricity by not updating his HVAC system. That got the boss’ attention. The HVAC technician that fixed the freezer sent out another HVAC technician from his company that specializes in commercial HVAC systems and he was a pretty good salesman. To make a long story short, the restaurant got a whole new zone controlled HVAC system and the customers, the employees, and the boss were all comfortable and happy.

The very best thing about being at Aunt Mamies was that she had air purifiers all over the house, and we could breathe better

I’ll never forget the first few days at Aunt Mamie’s house. I have many fond memories there, but the first few days are still the most vivid. When we first arrived, the first thing I noticed was the smell of food cooking. We were hungry, and cold. And Aunt Mamie had a nice fire going in the fireplace, and she had Christmas music on. We could hear other children playing in one of the other rooms, and we knew that we were safe. Our time before that, with our Mama, had been miserable. We ate breakfast and lunch at school and tried to get dinner at a friend’s house, because we never had any food. My brothers and I were often sick, and we didn’t have any heat. Mama tried to heat the house with the stove, when she was home, but she had often left us alone. I didn’t know it at the time, but Mama had a drug problem. And Aunt Mamie was our foster mother. We were finally in a home with plenty of good food and heat. It took Mama two years to get us back, and we stayed at Aunt Mamie’s the whole time. We were never cold in winter and opened our Christmas presents before the fire in the fireplace. Aunt Mamie had air conditioning too. We had never had air conditioning before. It made sleeping during the summer so much easier. The very best thing about being at Aunt Mamies was that she had air purifiers all over the house, and we could breathe better. Our allergies weren’t so troublesome. Eventually we went home to Mama and Aunt Mamie’s house became just memories, but, what fond memories they are.

It was a real devastating afternoon when I l received that our brother died due to a faulty Heating and A/C system.

When the driving ban was finally lifted, everybody tried to get a hold of our brother however he would not answer the iphone. When the people I was with and I finally got to his house, the people I was with and I had to have the building director open his door. All of us found him dead in his bed and the people I was with and I l received the carbon monoxide levels in the house were at deadly levels. The locale had to be vented out and the people I was with and I had to have the funeral for our brother. All of us are planning on suing the owner of the house building for not fixing the Heating and A/C plan as per the multiple requests of our brother. This should never happen to anybody!
